ATEX Rated Doors

If you work in a business that may contain, or have activities that produce, explosive or potentially explosive atmospheres such as petrol stations and pharmaceutical factories, then you’re most probably already aware of the ATEX directive. It is possible for businesses to not realise they are affected by the legislation, i.e. a business that produces fine organic dusts, such as wood or grain flour. Areas at risk from explosive atmospheres fall under the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulation 2002 (DSEAR), which puts duties on employers to control risks to staff and public from such areas in a place of work. It is, however, the responsibility of the door manufacturer to ensure that any equipment sited in a potentially hazardous area complies with the ‘ATEX’ directive.

RCS’ ATEX rated doors are supplied with GfA drives and controls, to be used in explosion-protected zones;

  • “Safedrive®” Elektromaten SI drives are used for industrial doors which require an anti-fallback device. The patented safety brake is built into the gear. The drive unit is fitted directly to the door shaft and comprises of a worm gear with safety brake and hollow shaft, emergency manual operator, integrated limit switches and electrical motor.
  • Elektromaten KE drives’ door shaft is driven by a chain-transmission and requires an appropriate sized safety brake. It comprises of a worm gear, interchangeable output-shaft, emergency manual operator, integrated limit switches and electrical motor.
